Construction of the present San Carlos de Borromeo Church - the third since the primitive adobe and straw church was built in 1763 - began, under the direction of Father Amenedo, in 1792. It was inaugurated in 1804.
If you pay attention to the friezes on the towers you will see that they are decorated with plates and porcelain jugs.
The fact is that during construction there was a banquet, and as a commemoration the porcelain ware was inserted as decoration.
One of the most interesting aspects of the church are the old tombstones at the backyard.
There was a bizarre custom of naming the unknown dead according to their aspect - for example, one tombstone reads: "presumed Spanish because of his long hair".
