Laguna del Sauce, with it's 5000 hectares, is the largest freshwater reserve in Maldonado.

Two important streams flow into it: the Pan de Azúcar and the Sauce, from which it takes its name.

It is very deep, around 7 m on the coastline and 13 m in the center.

There is a dam controlling the overflow of water into the River Plate.

Nautical sports and fishing are allowed, but no motor craft.

To enjoy a unique view of the lake, go up to Las Cumbres de la Ballena.

From there you can see the Cerro Pan de Azúcar, to the left the Laguna del Sauce International Airport, and the whole lake with impressive mansions and gardens on its shores.
