The port of Piriápolis was reinaugurated on 12 December 1997.
It is mainly a tourist port, with sections for fishing and passengers like the port of Punta del Este.
The port administration is by the National Hydrography Bureau, an office of the Ministry of Transport.

The new port has a total of 77 moorings, 68 of which are for leisure craft.
Among the services offered are launching, garbage collection, energy and fresh water supply.
There are Customs and Immigration offices, and a terminal of the Buquebus company, which has a direct Buenos Aires - Piriápolis ferry.
