Banks and currency
Uruguay is a financial market where free exchange is allowed, and banks operate from all over the world.
Many great international and national banks operate in Punta del Este itself.
There are many banks in the peninsula, specifically on Gorlero Avenue, though many have chosen to move to Roosevelt Avenue to avoid the bustle of the peninsula.
Banking hours are as follows: in winter from 13:00 to 17:00 Mondays to Fridays, and in summer from 17:00 to 21:00 also Monday to Friday.
The use of portable phones is not allowed inside banks.
Though many banks do have exchange counters, there are many exchange companies on Gorlero Avenue.
Generally they are open as from 10:00, and are open weekends. No commission is charged.
After business hours you can change money in the casinos.
