Punta del Este is a very safe city.

During the summer police reinforcements are brought in, especially to cope with traffic.

In town you will see plenty of police officers controlling the traffic and providing information.

In the past few years there has been an increase of private security companies, which contribute with their surveillance and provide electronic follow-up services to residences.

The most common crime, as mentioned before, is robbery to residences, generally by amateurs in search of ready money.

A minimum of precautions helps to avoid this.

There are no endemic diseases in Uruguay, though your consulate will probably advise you to get standard vaccines before travelling.

There are two well-equipped hospitals in the area, and several emergency services and paramedics.

Many public establishments are covered by one or another service, which means that any person inside is also protected.

Doctors who have private practices are usually connected with either of the two main hospitals, so if you require any information you can call either one of them.
